Most Chatbots Fail Post-Acute Care. Alita Doesn’t
Matt explains why generic chatbots fail in post-acute care, stressing the need for customized, industry-trained AI to ensure empathy, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
Matt discusses the shortcomings of generalist chatbot technology in post-acute care, highlighting how complex decision trees can lead to poor user experiences. Users often feel frustrated when chatbots fail to provide empathetic and accurate responses, especially regarding sensitive topics like loved ones' care. The importance of training AI in specific industries is critical, as generalist solutions may misinterpret industry-specific terms and fail to meet unique regulatory needs. Customization is essential for effective chatbot implementation, ensuring that they can handle specific requirements and provide reliable support.

Chatbot technology has been around, and you talk with people about it. It's rarely a good experience where its decision tree logic takes months usually to set up, and you take one false step within that decision tree logic, and it gets completely lost. The first question that almost always pops up on these chat forms is, what is your name? And you wanna ask, where are you located? Thanks. Where are you located? What's your last name? And that you're immediately like, this is just so broken and awful experience. And not only are you not gonna continue on with that experience, in your mind now, you're just frustrated with the organization that's even employing technology like this. These are people calling about their loved ones' lives. These are important conversations that need the respect and need the understanding of an AI that is built to be empathetic, built to answer as many questions as possible as quickly as possible, and just be a resource that's always on. And then diving deeper into it is you ask any of these generalist chatbot solutions, do you have any open CNA rules? That AI that is not trained in our industry is gonna think that CNA was you misspelling the word can. But to take it even further is when we're doing hiring in the state of New Jersey, let's say that the vaccine is required for your organization. That's something that, again, Generalist Solutions will not be setting up ways to know to ingest that vaccine documentation.
